Energy Crops
Energy
crops are plants grown as a source of biofuel or for direct conversion to
electricity or heat. Examples of plants used for biofuels include Jatropha
oil and cassava (both of which Essentica has direct experience growing) and
will, in the future, include agricultural waste material such as corn straw,
which can be converted into ethanol. Examples of plants used for direct
conversion to electricity or heat include willow, miscanthus and switchgrass
and other fast-growing biomass feedstocks (of which Essentica has direct
experience). Catmint Biomass to
Pellets
Agricultural
and forestry waste are increasingly being treated as an alternative to energy
crops. Essentica, in the process of manufacturing Refined Catmint Oil, will
be left with a sizeable quantity of waste biomass. We will convert this
biomass into pellets. Future Plans in
Relation to Energy Crops
Upon
initial commissioning of our catmint oil distillation plant, Essentica will
plant a number of energy crops for direct export or for conversion into pellets,
in conjunction with the catmint biomass. |
